OCI Column Installation in OCI Mode

Preparation

First, set the instrument to a state in which it can be serviced (Maintenance Mode).

Procedures

Step 1

Make sure that the OCI insert is installed in the injection port.

Note

Set the OCI temperature so that it does not exceed the maximum operating temperature of the column.

Step 2

Draw the injection port side of wide bore column for analysis with an inner diameter of 0.53 mm (or capillary tube (①)) through the nut (without slit) (②), and then graphite ferrule (③).
After drawing the column through the nut (without slit), use a 6×8 spanner (④) to fasten the graphite ferrule at the position indicated below according to the analysis method.

Injection port and insert to be used Length
Using OCI insert with OCI-2030 NX 88 mm
Using OCI insert with OCI-2030 103 mm
Using simple OCI glass insert with OCI-2030 Approx. 75 mm

Fix it with graphite adjuster for SPL (⑤), etc. just enough to prevent drop, and then adjust the position.

Hint
  • For OCI analysis, the inner diameter of the column should be larger than 0.53 mm because the needle end of the syringe is directly inserted into the column.
When using a capillary column with an inner diameter of less than 0.53 mm, install the graphite ferrule according to the following procedures.
  1. Cut a capillary tube (①) into 50 cm to 1 m long.
  2. Connect the capillary tube (①) and the column with Press-Tight connector (⑥).
  3. Draw the capillary tube (①) through the graphite ferule.
  • Cut the end of the capillary tube and the column vertically with capillary cutter, etc. in advance.

  • When connecting the capillary tube and the column with Press-Tight connector, application of a small amount of organic solvent (acetone, hexane, etc.) to the column end will help to seal connected part of Press-Tight connector.

Note

When using the simple OCI method with OCI-2030, use a glass insert instead of the OCI-2030 insert.
(Refer to Replacement of Insert and O-ring )
When using the simple OCI method with a glass insert, there are no restrictions on the inner diameter of the column that can be used.

Step 3

Pull the column oven door latch toward you to open the column oven door.

Step 4

Insert wide bore column for analysis (or capillary tube) into injection inlet.
For OCI-2030

For OCI-2030 NX

Step 5

Insert it until it reaches the top end and fix the nut (without slit) (②) with 6×8 spanner (④).

For OCI-2030

For OCI-2030 NX

Step 6

Insert OCI syringe (⑦) straight until it reaches the injection inlet.

Note

When using AOC, install a syringe according to the following procedures.

  1. Turn off AOC and then open the door.
  2. Hold the syringe driving unit on which OCI syringe is installed by hand.
  3. Move down the syringe to the bottom.

Step 7

Pull out OCI syringe (⑦).

Step 8

Insert OCI syringe (⑦) again and check that it can be inserted smoothly without getting snagged on the column.

Step 9

Hang the column on the column hanger.

Step 10

Fix the graphite ferrule (③) temporarily also on the column detector side, and install the column.
(Refer to Installation of Capillary Column (Graphite Ferrule) )

Step 11

Close the column oven door.

Step 12

Exit maintenance mode using the following procedure according to the relevant instrument, and reset the consumable usage counter.
