Procedures

Step 1

Stop the instrument. Then, on the instrument monitor or workstation, check that the temperature of the column oven is lower than 40 °C, check that the temperatures of the injection port and detector are 50 °C or lower, and check that the gas supply is stopped and there is no residual pressure.

Step 2

Draw the column through the septum (⑥)

Hint

The septum is used for positioning the ferrule. Used septum is acceptable.
The septum will be removed in a later step. Use a cutter to cut open the septum.

Step 3

Cut the end of column with capillary cutter (③) etc.

Hint

After drawing through the septum, cut the end of the column to remove remaining septum.

Step 4

Draw the column through the nut (④) and graphite Vespel ferrule (⑤).

Note

The tapered surface of the graphite Vespel ferrule (⑤) should be on the nut side.

Step 5

Pass the column through the graphite Vespel positioning jig (⑦).

Hint

  • Adjust the column so that the end of the column is aligned with the end of the jig.

  • The length of the inserted column for SCD should be "135 mm" for the left installation model and "275 mm" for the right installation model.

Step 6

Tighten the nut (④) and the graphite Vespel positioning jig (⑦) with a spanner while fixing the septum.

Note

If the position of the septum is not fixed, the length of the inserted column will vary.

Hint

Use the spanner for column nut, 3/16 x 1/4 (①) for the nut (④), and a spanner, SCD, maintenance (②) for the graphite Vespel positioning jig (⑦).

Step 7

Remove the graphite Vespel positioning jig (⑦).

Step 8

Pull the column oven door latch toward you to open the column oven door.

Step 9

Hang the column on the column hanger.

Step 10

Install a column on the SCD.

Step 11

Tighten the nut (④) by hand, and tighten the nut with the spanner for column nut, 3/16 x 1/4 (①) one turn.
Remove the positioning septum.

Note

  • Be careful so that the graphite Vespel ferrule and nut do not become detached from the column.

  • Be careful not to move the positioning septum.

Hint

Tighten the nut with the positioning septum lightly pressed against the nut.

Step 12

Close the column oven door.

Step 13

Start the GC.

Note

If the graphite Vespel ferrule is new, increase the temperature of the column oven to the temperature used in the analysis, cool the column oven, and additionally tighten the nut on the SCD side.
If the ferrule is new, leakage may occur at the ferrule when increasing or decreasing the column oven temperature.
