Installation of Adapter for Wide Bore Capillary Column (Adapter for WBC) and Column

Install the adapter to use wide bore capillary columns on the detector for packed columns.

Procedures

Step 1

Stop the instrument. Then, on the instrument monitor or workstation, check that the temperature of the column oven is lower than 40 °C, check that the temperatures of the injection port and detector are 50 °C or lower, and check that the gas supply is stopped and there is no residual pressure.

Step 2

Install the adapter for WBC on the injection port side.

  1. Put the washer (②) and then nut (③) from the bottom (screw side) of the adapter for WBC on the injection port side (①).

  1. Insert the glass insert (⑦) on the top of the adapter for WBC on the injection port side (①), and install it on the injection inlet in the GC oven.

Step 3

Install the adapter for WBC on the detector side.

  1. Put the washer (②) and then nut (③) from the bottom (screw side) of the adapter for WBC on the detector side (④).

  1. Install it on the screw part of the detector in the GC oven.

Note

When the heating cup and the adapter for capillary are installed on the unit, remove the heating cup.


　
Then, remove the nut and adapter for capillary installed on the unit, and install the adapter for WBC.

Step 4

Install the capillary column.

  1. Draw the graphite ferule (⑥) through the capillary column.

Install the graphite ferrule according to the following table.

Injection port/Detector Position
SINJ 4 to 6 mm
PTCD 36 mm
FID 52 mm*1

*1 When using an FID jet for packed column , set the position to 72 mm.

Note

Cut the column so that the end becomes flat.

When the graphite enters into the graphite adjuster, remove the entered graphite with tweezers, etc.
Caution should be exercised not to damage the column.

If the column is installed while the graphite entered into the graphite adjuster is not removed, the graphite may remain and cause clogging in the capillary adapter after you remove the column. When the graphite is clogged, disconnect the capillary adopter and remove the clogging with thin cotton swabs, etc.

  1. Pull the column oven door latch toward you to open the column oven door.

  1. Hang the column on the column hanger.

  1. Insert the column in the injection inlet and detector.

  1. Turn the nut (with slit) (⑤), clockwise by hand to tighten it.

  1. Tighten it about 1/2 turn with a 10×12 spanner (⑧).
