Conditioning of FTD Alkaline Source

Note
  • Unlike the previous models (FTD-17, etc.), alkaline source of GC-2030 cannot be conditioned (flushed) at full power.
  • Frequent conditioning of alkaline source reduces the life of alkaline source.
Baseline drift and ghost peaks may be caused by contamination of injection port or the column. First, clean or replace glass insert and condition the column. If the problem cannot be resolved after that, condition alkaline source.
  • When not using FTD detector for a long time, remove FTD collector from GC and store it in a desiccator or a sealed container with silica gel.
After not using the instrument for a long time, in some rare cases, background current increases very little even after current value is set and the power is kept at 100%, resulting in consumption of alkaline source. If background current increases very little even after current value is set, perform the following steps before conditioning.
  1. Press
    (HOME) - [Detector].
  2. Set [Control Mode] to [Voltage].
  3. Set [Voltage] at about "50 to 55 %".
  4. Wait for about 30 to 60 minutes.

Procedures

Step 1

Press

(HOME) - [Detector].
If the detector temperature monitor value is higher than 50 °C, set the detector temperature to 50 °C or lower and wait for the monitor value to drop to 50 °C or below.

Step 2

Set [Control Mode] to [Current] and set [Current] at a value little higher than that for the analysis.

Note

When the sensitivity or noise level is not improved or when performing conditioning immediately after using FTD Collector Repair Kit, set [Current] at about "0.5 pA".

Step 3

Wait for about 30 to 60 minutes, and check the baseline.

When the sensitivity or noise level is not improved, set the instrument as follows and wait.
