Procedures

Step 1

Aspirate and eject organic solvent etc. with the syringe to clean the inside.

Note

Place the removed parts on a clean tray or sheet.
Take care to keep the parts from becoming lost or contaminated.

Step 2

Ensure that the plunger moves smoothly.

Move it throughout its length to check that syringe plunger is not stiff and does not get struck.

Hint

When syringe plunger does not move smoothly, it is effective to pull out the plunger from the barrel and wipe it with a soft cloth moistened with organic solvent etc.

Step 3

Repeat pumping using organic solvent etc.

If the movement of the plunger quickly becomes heavy after pumping several times, some fine contamination may remain inside. Perform cleaning again.

Step 4

Inspect the condition of sample ejection from the needle tip.

If the sample is ejected straight, there is no problem.
When the needle tip is clogged, the sample may be ejected in the form of a mist or ejected diagonally or horizontally.

Hint

Even if the sample is ejected straight, the amount of ejection may decrease.
You can check it easily by comparing it with a new syringe without clogging.

Step 5

When the needle tip is clogged, perform maintenance of the needle tip.

Remove clogging in the needle tip using stylet wire (③).

Hint
  • If the needle tip is clogged, reproducibility of the analysis may decrease. Remove clogging of the needle tip and check that the sample is ejected correctly before use.

  • Aspiration with an aspirator and use of syringe cleaner is also effective to remove contamination in the syringe and the needle tip.
