Procedures

Step 1

On the instrument monitor or workstation, check that the temperature of the column oven is lower than 40 °C, and check that the temperatures of the injection port and detector are 50 °C or lower.
After checking the temperatures, turn OFF the main power to the instrument.

Step 2

Remove the column installed on FTD.

Step 3

Open INJ/DET cover.

Step 4

Loosen 2 collector fixing knurled screws.

Step 5

Remove collector cover.

Step 6

Remove FTD body fixing screw with a phillips screwdriver.

Step 7

Remove the signal code.

Step 8

Remove the power cable.

Step 9

Remove the connector on the high voltage cable.

Step 10

Remove FTD body.

Step 11

Bring up the high voltage plate to remove it.

Step 12

Remove the high voltage electrode together with the spring.

Step 13

Loosen FID jet with a hexnut screwdriver (③).

Step 14

Remove FID jet with a tweezer.

Avoid applying an impact to the jet.
This may damage the quartz part.

Step 15

Inspect the jet on the tip of FID jet.

If it is contaminated, clean it. For cleaning, use a cotton swab or a soft brush moistened with organic solvent (acetone, hexane, etc.).
When there is clogging, proceed to the next step and replace the jet.

Step 16

Install a new FID jet.

Step 17

Tighten it until it is fixed securely with a hexnut screwdriver (③).

Step 18

Install the high voltage electrode.

Step 19

Install the high voltage plate.

Step 20

Install FTD body.

Step 21

Install the connector of the high voltage cable.

Step 22

Install the power cable.

Step 23

Install the signal code.

Step 24

Install FTD body fixing screw with a phillips screwdriver.

Step 25

Install collector cover.

Step 26

Alternately tighten the upper and the lower collector fixing knurled screws a few times.

When either one is tightened, the other one may loosen. Be sure to tighten them several times and check that they are fixed appropriately. If collector fixing knurled screws loosen, red hot of alkaline source may be incomplete and it may cause decrease of sensitivity.

Step 27

Close INJ/DET cover.
