Replacing the Jet


 

Tools Required

Phillips screwdriver, tweezers, Hexnut screwdriver (option, Part No. 670-18800)

Procedure

Shutdown the system.

Loosen the 2 collector fixing knurled screws.

Detach the collector cover.

Remove the FTD unit setscrews.

Detach the FTD unit.

Disconnect the signal cable.

Pull out the high voltage plate upwards and remove it.

Pull the high voltage brush out together with the spring.

Disconnect the connector of the high voltage cable.

Loosen the FID jet using a hexnut screwdriver.

Detach the FID jet using tweezers.

 


Do not jolt the jet as this may break the quartz.

Check for any dirt or blockages in the jet.

If dirty, wipe the dirt away using a cotton bud soaked in solvent. Replace it with a new item if it is blocked.

Fit the FID jet and use a hexnut screwdriver to turn it until it comes to a firm stop.

Put back the high voltage unit by following the removal procedure in reverse.

Attach the FTD unit.

Put back the collector cover.

Tighten the collector fixing knurled screws several times, alternating between the top and bottom screws.

The screws must be tightened several times, as tightening one screw may loosen the other. Check to ensure that it has been fixed properly. If this screw is loose, the alkali source will not glow as hot, possibly resulting in reduced sensitivity.

Start up the system.
